Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Willow Creek Chapel (

Gladys Viola Johnson was born on October 5, 1908 at
Dwight
,
North Dakota
to Gilbert and Anna Marie (Nelson) Anderson.
She grew up in Dwight and attended the local grade school and high school.
After school she began working on the
County
Farm
.
On September 3, 1933 she married Olaf Carlson at
Fergus Falls
,
Minnesota
.
The couple made their home in Wahpeton where they raised five children.
Olaf died in 1958, and Gladys worked as a dietician to support her family.
She began at the
St.
Francis
Hospital
in 1958 until 1964, when she began employment at the Leach Home in Wahpeton. In 1975, she married Clifford Johnson at
Bethel
Lutheran
Church
in Wahpeton.
The couple resided in
Breckenridge
,
MN
.
Cliff died in 1984 and Gladys continued to live in Breckenridge.
She entered the St. Francis Healthcare Campus in 2009.
Gladys was a member of
Bethel
Lutheran
Church
in Wahpeton for 79 years.
She was an active member of the quilting guild, Bethel Circle Women and the Friendship Group.
She belonged to two birthday clubs over the years, was very active in Christian Women and the Richland County Historical Society.
Gladys thoroughly enjoyed playing the organ (which she taught herself) and crocheting.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a son, James (Connie) Carlson, Independence, MO and two daughters, Beverly (James) Jacobson, Detroit Lakes, MN and Virginia “ Ginger” (Tom) Achter, Marana, AZ, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great- great- grandchildren..
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Olaf in 1958 and Clifford in 1984, a daughter, Marlene in 1982 and a son Dick in 1993, 3 sisters, Cecil Simonson, Myrtle Jaeger and Ruby Jorgenson and a brother, Newman Anderson.
