Gerald Odegaard

Gerald Odegaard, 86, Wyndmere, ND passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 10, at 11:00 AM at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND with Rev. Bob Caranicas officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Gol-Aal Cemetery, Rural Wyndmere, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Gerald was born December 9, 1925 at the farm in Garborg Township, near Wyndmere, ND. He grew up on the farm and served in the US Army in WWII . On July 1, 1950 he married Harriet Ostern; the couple lived and farmed on the home farm, becoming the 3rd generation to do so. The couple recently moved to Fargo, ND.

Gerald was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, rural Wyndmere, where he was an active member.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Harriet, Fargo, ND; two sons: Jim (Paula) Odegaard, rural Wyndmere, ND; Daniel (Jenny) Odegaard, Flandreau, SD; a grandchild, Chelsey Lee, and two step-grandchildren, Alex and Gary; two sisters, Carol (Bud) Mitskog, Fargo, ND; and Eleanor Braaten, Kindred, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine (Golberg) Odegaard, two brothers, Olaf and Clifford Odegaard; two sisters, Clarice Thiel and Grace York.
