George M. Schuler, Jr. was born on August 18, 1927 to George and Dorothy (Perry) Schuler at Hebron ND. As a child, he moved with his family to Hettinger ND, Renton WA and also Minneapolis MN. After a one year stay in Minneapolis, the family moved to Breckenridge MN in 1938. Here, George grew up and attended the Breckenridge Public Schools. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1945 and went on to attend one year of college at NDSCS. George served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1948 to 1949. On October 21, 1950, George was united in marriage to Barbara Anderson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge. On their honeymoon, George was called back into active military duty in the US Army to serve during the Korean Conflict and was transferred to the Army Reserves in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956.
When he returned home to Breckenridge, George and his brother, Bob took over the family business of Schuler Grain Company. George and Barb raised their family of two girls and four boys in Breckenridge. He was involved in many businesses during his career including Sigco Sun Products, First National Bank of Breckenridge, Sigco Research, Kent Farmers Grain, Schuler, Inc. of Barney ND, and Schuler Farms of Grygla MN. During that time he was a member of the Breckenridge School Board and was a long time supporter of Catholic education and charities. In 1984, they moved to Wahpeton ND, and George retired in 1985. They spent summers at their home at Otter Tail Lake and winters in Mesa AZ. George considered himself to be a farmer at heart and helped on the farm at Grygla during the farming season.
George was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Alfred-Lockman American Legion Post No. 43 and VFW Post No. 2766 of Breckenridge. His main hobby during retirement was watching TV and spending time with his family.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara, Wahpeton ND; his daughters, Jan McCann, and Fran (Jim) Cook, both of Wahpeton; his sons, Kim (Sue) Schuler, Minnetrista MN, George III "Jody" (Holly) Schuler, Wahpeton, Jerry Schuler, Minot ND, Jamie Schuler, Wahpeton; his grandchildren, Mandy and Rory McCann, Lindsay (Robbie) Anderson, Josh, Katie, Jordan, and Lexy Cook, Carlye (Brandon) Landin, Jill and Abby Schuler, George IV and Wil Schuler, Christopher and Hailey Schuler; his four great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews, Jay Schuler, Coni Waibel, Kari Steinborn, Cindy Deal, Kathy Deal, Tom Schuler, and Christy Haire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Schuler; his brother, Bob Schuler; his sister-in-law, Mavis Schuler, and his nephew, Robbie Schuler.
