George Ista, Jr

George Jacob Ista Jr., was born December 20, 1922 in Colfax Township, the son of George and Susie (Towne) Ista. He attended school in Colfax where he completed high school and graduated from NDSSS in 1942 in Business Administration. He served in the US Army in the Army Security Agency, serving for a time in Hawaii. After his honorable discharge he moved back to the Walcott area and married Agnes Meyer in 1956 in Kindred, ND. He continued farming in Colfax Township up to this last year and started wintering in Hawaii in 1987.

George was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was a longtime Township Clerk and served on the Red River Telephone Company Board of Directors for 24 years.

George is survived by his wife Agnes, Walcott; a son and a daughter, Blake Ista and Tamara (Paul) Tehle, all of Walcott; his brother, Richard (Diane) Ista, Moorhead, MN and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters: Tesibel, Myrtle, Beatrice and Maxine.

George's family wishes to thank Essentia Cancer Center and Davita Dialysis and staff for their care and concern during his illness.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Colfax Fire Department or the Colfax Swimming Pool.
