Geneva Baker, 86, Wahpeton, ND died quietly at home under the care of Riveredge Hospice on Monday, May 30, 2011. Funeral mass will be on Thursday, June 2 at 10:30 am at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton with Father Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 pm to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm at St. John's Catholic Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Hankinson, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Geneva Mary Meyer was born April 30, 1925 at Fairmount, ND to Matthew and Hattie (Krause) Meyer. She grew up and lived near Fairmount until she married Raymond Baker on September 24, 1946. They farmed near Hankinson until 1952 when they moved to Wahpeton, ND. She worked for the Wahpeton Rehabilitation Center from 1965 to 1974. From 1974 until her retirement in 1987 she worked at North Dakota State College of Science.
Geneva was a member of Christian Mothers. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, playing cards and fishing. She was a loving mother and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren. She has now rejoined her husband to be together forever.
Geneva is survived by her six children: Gene (Gayle) Baker, Hazen, ND, Diane (Bill) Mertes, Wahpeton, Joan (Dean) Rydell, Fairmount, ND, Glen (Tarasia) Baker, Breckenridge, MN, Dale Baker, Wahpeton, Judy Baker, Wahpeton; eight grandchildren, Cory Baker, Hazen, ND, Kathy (Casey) Mutzenberger, Bismarck, ND, Jill (Aaron) Nudell, Casselton, ND, Greg (Emma) Mertes, Wahpeton, Crystal Martin, Hebron, ND, Ashley and Jessica Rydell, Fairmount, Scott Jorheim, Wahpeton; seven great-grandchildren, Owen and Evan Nudell, Madeline, Macen, and Maveric Mertes, Elijah and Sydney Lewellen; one brother, Anthony Meyer, Fairmount; four sisters, Mary Paczkowski, Austin, MN; Agnes (George) Ista, Walcott, ND; Anna Marie Borchert, Faribault, MN; and Rita Mae Ennen, Las Vegas, NV.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, and infant daughter, Joyce, her parents, six brothers, Cyril, James, Raymond, Gary, Daniel, and Darrel; one sister, Phylis.
