Frances
was born September 15, 1917, at
St. Cloud
,
MN
, the daughter of Samuel Franklin and Ruby Ruth (Janke) Iler.
Frances
moved with her family to
Milaca
,
MN
, in the 4
th
grade and later to
Tenney
,
MN
, where she graduated from high school at Tintah. She worked for DeLendricies Department Store in
Fargo
and was united in marriage to Lawrence Cross on May 12, 1939, at Tenney. They lived for a short time at
Benson
,
MN
, before moving to Tintah
,
where
Frances
worked as a waitress at several restaurants. She was also an Avon Representative from
1953 to 1987. Frances and Lawrence helped raise their nephews, Henry Jr., Norris “Ted”, Steven, and niece, Janice.
Lawrence
passed away November 14, 1998, and
Frances
continued to live in Tintah until October of 2005, when poor health required her to enter St. Catherine’s
Living
Center
, Wahpeton.
Frances
was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, a Sunday school teacher
,
and church treasurer. She enjoyed her garden, both vegetables and flowers, especially her gladiolas.
Frances is survived by her son, Sam (Harlene) Cross, Dalton, MN; three grandchildren: Robert (Wendy) Cross, Kenosha, WI.; Jason (Alexia) Cross, Fergus Falls, MN; Dustin Cross, Shoreview, MN; three great
-
grandchildren: Alyssa Cross, Kenosha; Andrew and Rylie Cross, Fergus Falls, MN; her two sisters, Lillian Pehl, Hemet, CA; Jeanette (Lee) Chauncy, Las Vegas, NV, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Dan Iler, and her sister, Pearl Barnt.
