Florence Tingum

Florence Tingum, 96, Wahpeton, ND, formerly Wyndmere, ND, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND with Rev. Harvey Henderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at GOL-AAL Cemetery, rural Wyndmere. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Florence was born on December 6, 1919 one of thirteen children of Willie and Tilde (Anderson) Bakko in rural Walcott, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Walcott Lutheran Church, and grew up on the farm west of Walcott and attended country school. After her schooling she helped local families with farm work and cooking.

Florence was united in marriage to Arthur Tingum on November 1, 1942 at Walcott Lutheran Church. In 1948, the couple bought the farm in Homestead Township from Art's father. Florence helped Art with the farm chores along with raising their three children. Eventually, their son Gary joined the farming operation, until he passed away on July 6, 1981, and then Art and Florence continued the farming operation until they retired in 1989. Art passed away on December 27, 1994 and Florence continued to live on the farm until 2012, when she moved to Wahpeton, ND after living on the farm for 70 years.

Florence was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, rural Wyndmere, ND where she was the treasurer of the Ladies Aid, served on the church council, and was a Sunday School Teacher/Superintendent for many years. She later became a member of Wyndmere Lutheran Church. She enjoyed making cakes for weddings, anniversaries, Christmas baking, and baking pies. She also played softball and bowled into her sixties. Florence was known for her great hospitality when anyone stopped by for coffee.

Florence is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (David) Score, Shirley, IN, Linda (Frank) Azure, Wahpeton, ND; her daughter-in-law, Connie (Woody) Caspers, Battle Lake, MN; her grandchildren, Michael (Kathy) Score, Douglas (Lori) Score, Brian (Jessica) Score, Justin (Mindy) Azure, and Christa (Lee) Krump; nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art Tingum, her son, Gary Tingum, her seven brothers, and five sisters.
