Father Henger was born to William and Frances (Lenzen) Henger on December 19, 1927 in
Breckenridge

MN
.
He grew up and attended grade school in
Mooreton
,
ND
.
He attended
Wahpeton
High School
and in 1944 began his seminary training at Our Lady of the Ozarks in
Carthage
,
MO.
He made his novitiate in
Alton
,
IL
, made his first vows in 1949 and then continued his studies in
Rome
at the
Gregorian
University
where he earned his licentiate in philosophy and theology.
He was ordained in 1955 and returned to the
US
in 1956.
His first assignment was at Our Lady of the Ozarks.
After three semesters there, he returned to
Rome
and was assigned to the staff of the
Oblate
College
.
In 1963, he returned to the
US
and was assigned to
Madonna
Towers
in
Rochester
,
MN
.
In 1983, he began his career as a parish priest at
St. Ann
’s parish in
Blackduck
,
MN
until 1988 when he became the pastor of
St. John’s
parish in
Rosholt
,
SD.
For three years he was stationed at the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in the fund raising department.
In 1991, he returned to
St. Ann
’s in Blackduck.
His final assignment was at St. Luke’s parish of Sandstone, MN after which he retired to
St.
Francis
Home
in
Breckenridge
,
MN
in 2009.
Father Henger enjoyed fishing, traveling, and Notre Dame football.
He especially loved spending time with his extended family when he could.
Father Henger is survived by: his sister, Sister Annella Henger,
South Milwaukee
,
WI
; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard Veit; and an infant sister.
