Erma Hill

Jean Hill, 80, Wahpeton, ND, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 28, 11:00 a.m., at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Jen Tyler officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a 7 PM Prayer Service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and visitation one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Erma Jean Hill was born December 13, 1934 in Wahpeton, ND, the daughter of Everett G. and Anne L. (Dierk) Jones. She attended country school near Colfax, ND, and moved to Wyndmere where she continued her education at Wyndmere High School. She worked for Bud's Café, Wahpeton as a waitress for a couple of years. Jean was united in marriage to Sampson "Sam" Hill on April 20, 1954. The couple farmed near Wyndmere before moving to Wahpeton where they raised their four daughters. Jean worked as an educational aid at the Wahpeton Indian School for over 25 years and later as a CNA for St. Catherine's.
Jean was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church, where she was active in UMW and served on several committees. She also belonged to Eagles Auxiliary, enjoyed gardening, TV games shows and spending time at the lakes, especially observing hummingbirds. Jean's priorities in her life, were her faith in God and her family.
Jean is survived by her husband, Sam, Wahpeton; four daughters: Loretta Meyer, (Special friend, Gunner Windel) Wahpeton; Peggy (Louis) Erdrich, Bemidji, MN; Debra Hill, Wahpeton; Kimberly (Curtis) Crowston, Kindred, ND; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren (plus one expected in December) and one great-great grandchild: Christopher (Jennifer) Meyer, children: Alex, Samantha and Hunter; Nicole Keller, daughter: Lainie and her son, Tate and Dylan; Brent Meyer and children: Cole, Cody, Madelynn; Ben (Abby) Erdrich and Samuel Erdrich; Elizabeth (Cory) Loosmore, daughter Riley ; Kianna Crowston and Carter Crowston. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Genevieve Waseskuk, one nephew Doug Jones, two nieces, Lynnette Gilles and Wanda Speich and several cousins and her special dog, Baby Girl.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dale and Kenneth Jones, and a nephew, Steven Jones.
