Ellen Rowland

Ellen Rowland, 95, Chaska, MN, formerly Wahpeton, ND peacefully passed away Friday, June 3, 2016 at Auburn Manor Nursing Home in Chaska, MN. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 8, at 1:00 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Erika Buller officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Ellen Louise (Swanson) Rowland was born January 30, 1921, to George and Edna (Bickford) Swanson and raised near Havre, Montana. Ellen married Edgar Rowland on September 18, 1939. After they were married they moved to McIntosh, MN. They also lived in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and Grand Forks, ND before moving to Wahpeton in 1957.
Edgar and Ellen owned and operated several businesses together. In the late 60's Ellen ventured into her own business when she purchased, Aquets House of Beauty and later established "Ellen's", a downtown women's and children's clothing store.
Ellen was very competitive and her passion was the game of bridge. She was also an excellent cook who loved to share her recipes with family and friends. Holidays were particularly special as Ellen decorated the entire house and set a beautiful table. Ellen made so many homemade cookies and candy it was hard to remember which cookie tins held which delicacy!
Ellen is survived by three children, Richard; Ron (Margo) Rowland; and Susan (Kim) Schuler; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; a son,
David; her parents; 3 brothers and 1 sister.
