Elaine was born on May 29, 1939 in Fargo, ND to John and Esther (Schultz) Heley. She grew up and attended school in Wahpeton, ND and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1957. She then attended NDSSS in the nursing program and became an LPN.
Elaine was united in marriage to David Ehlers on April 19, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. She worked for St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge until her children were born. She then stayed home to care for the children. In the early 1990's, Elaine got relicensed and went to work for the Leach Home until she retired in 2003. David preceded her in death on January 18, 1999. She continued to live on the farm to the present day.
Elaine was a member of the Antelope Methodist Church of Antelope Township. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For a number of years she was involved with Relay for Life in Wahpeton.
Elaine is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca (Richard) Dinger, Cavalier, ND, Rachel (Marshall) Lien, Milnor, ND, Renee (Tim Stromberg) Ehlers, Wahpeton, ND; her one son, Michael Ehlers, Barney, ND; her fifteen grandchildren, Amanda, Crystal, and Daniel Dinger, Scott (Megan Norling) Ehlers, Stephanie, Lisa, Kevin, and Kelly Ehlers, Geoffrey (Tracy) Lien, Vanessa Lien, Joe (Ashley) Ehlers, DeAnna (Miles Helgeson) Wetzel, Kyle, Bryce, and Brandon Wetzel; her five great-grandchildren, Lily, Milo, Brady, Miley, and Cayson; her siblings, Harold Heley, Fargo, ND, Duane (Anita) Heley, Byron, MN, Rodney (Nancy) Heley, Olympia, WA, Karen (Coyne) Quigley, Donnybrook, ND, and Carol (Rex) Hansen, Becker, MN
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Esther Heley; her husband, David Ehlers; an infant son, Steven Ehlers.
