Edward D. Johnson, 61, Otter Tail Lake, MN, formerly Wahpeton, ND, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016. A funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Monday, December 5, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND, Rev. Matthew Tooman officiating. Visitation with Ed's family will be Sunday from 4 PM to 6 PM and one hour before the service all at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.
Ed was born May 8, 1955, (on Mother's Day, a special day for his mother as she received a special gift of a son to go with her three daughters) at Breckenridge, MN, the son of Hilding and Erma (Bladow) Johnson. He grew up in Wahpeton and attended Wahpeton schools, graduating from Wahpeton Senior High in 1973. He attended NDSCS and worked at Melroe in Gwinner before moving back to Wahpeton. He started work with Peschel Candy Co. in Breckenridge, MN. When Henry Candy purchased Peschel Candy, Ed moved to Morris, MN, and Alexandria MN, where he worked at Henry's until retiring in 2012.
Ed retired to Otter Tail Lake, MN, visiting family in Arizona in the winter. Ed was a car enthusiast and enjoyed going to the Barrett-Jackson car auction each winter, as well as driving his special pickup in the Granny Run at Grand Rapids, ND. He was an avid antique collector and enjoyed following NDSU Bison football with friends in their "Bison Bus".
Ed is survived by two sisters, Ruth (Gary) Barth, Show Low, AZ; and Betty (Bernie) Johanson, Wahpeton; four nieces and nephews, Jamey Barth, Show Low, AZ; Stacey (Jay) Yahnke, Hokah, MN; Gavin (Melissa Gedrose) Johanson, Wahpeton; Cheryl Johanson, Inver Grove Heights, MN; eight great-nephews and great-nieces.
Ed is preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, Hilding and Erma, and his sister, Connie Doll.
