Earl W. Oliver was born July 3, 1920 at Wahpeton, ND, the son of George W. and Josephine B. (Jacobson) Oliver. Bud grew up in Wahpeton, attended local schools and graduated from Wahpeton High School. He attended NDSCS where he participated in football. Bud traveled to Chicago with his brother Leon and went to work for Stouffers. He was united in marriage to Albena Mechanes from Pittsburgh PA. They moved to Wahpeton where he joined the US Army and was stationed in Bryon, Texas. In Texas he was in charge of the officers club on base which he operated, until he was stationed in Japan, where he continued operating officers clubs until being honorably discharge in 1945. Bud returned to Wahpeton where he and his brother Bob opened a small grocery store ?Oliver?s North side Grocery. They also owned a second store on the south side of Wahpeton adjacent to their childhood home. In the mid 1950?s, they built and operated the Parkette Drive-in in Chahinkapa Park across from the swimming pool. They operated this for a number of years until they built Oliver?s Super Value on the corner of 9th and Dakota. The store was eventually sold in the early 60?s and Bud went into the real estate business, ?Valley Realty?, holding his real estate license for 40 years. During this time Bud was also in the construction business building numerous homes in the area as a dealer of Wausau Homes. With his investment partners, Bud developed Westmore Lawn Addition which had the distinction of being the first residential development to go with completely underground wiring in the nation. He also worked and developed Valley 1st Addition and Oliver?s 1st Addition on the northwest end of Wahpeton. He was also involved with restaurants, pizza shops and the first mini warehouse in Wahpeton.

Bud was a charter member of the Community Development Corporation, the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, Bois de Sioux Golf Club, Legion Club and the VFW.

Throughout his life he had a love for animals; especially dogs. Along with his wife they operated Prairie Acres Kennels boarding and raising dogs. He also became very involved with the Chahinkapa Zoo, building and donating ?Grandpa?s Little Zoo? which is still a favorite of children today. His other interests included motor home traveling, government, serving on the Wahpeton City Council and fighting taxes. But, above all of his business interests and community involvement, Bud?s family always came first.

Bud is survived by his wife Albena (Beanie) Oliver, Wahpeton; two daughters and a son: Carol (Bill) Daniels, St. Louis Park, MN; Jim (Donelyn) Oliver, Wahpeton; Susie (Dick) Herbst, Fargo, ND; three grandsons: Ben Oliver, Wahpeton; Gabe Oliver; Fargo; and Joe (Joelle) Oliver, Dayton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leon and Bob Oliver.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Chahinkapa Zoo in Wahpeton.
