Duane A. Marohl, 72, Wahpeton, ND, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Riveredge Hospice. Funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Alan R. Werth officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Willow Creek Chapel (920 3rd Ave. N.) Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Tyler, ND.
Duane Ardell Marohl was born on December 19, 1935 in a maternity home in Barnesville, M.N. He was the son of Erhart and Dorothy (Gruenberg) Marohl. He was baptized on March 22, 1936 by Rev. Emil Ulbricht at Christ Lutheran Church, Mitchell Township, Wolverton, M.N. and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton.
The fall of 1938, he moved with his family to a farm southwest of Hankinson where he grew up and attended Duerr township country school No. I. He was confirmed on April 30, 1950 by Rev. W. H. Cordts at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lidgerwood. The fall of 1957 he moved into Lidgerwood with his family. He worked at Mahlers Texaco gas station until February 1958 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany until 1960. He returned to Wahpeton where his family had moved while he was in service. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged in January of 1964.
On June 4, 1960 he was united in marriage to Shirley Baker at Grace Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, M.N., by Rev. Henry Fry.
He worked for Bud Vertin Furniture Store for 4 years where he installed carpet and linoleum and then in May of 1965, Duane began working for North Dakota State College of Science as a custodian at Bute Gym and then later at Blickre Activity Center where he continued working until his retirement in December of 1999.
His passion was doing farm work, especially when working for the Triple O Farms owned by Willard, Dan, and Kevin Onchuck. He also loved making hay with his sons and grandsons, for his cattle and for his friends who had horses. Duane also enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, NASCAR Races, and he truly loved going to his grandchildren?s school activities. He will be sadly missed by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Wahpeton; four sons: Terry (Carmen) Marohl, Mooreton, N.D., Bryan (Eileen) Marohl, Wyndmere, N.D., Randy (Stacy) Marohl, Eaton, C.O., Curtis (Janet) Marohl, Fairmount, N.D.; three daughters: Shelly (Steve) Wolf, Mooreton, N.D., Jennifer (Sy) Hansana, Gwinner, N.D., Stacee (Michael) Manock, Wahpeton, N.D.; thirteen grandchildren: Adam (Jenny) Marohl, Alex Marohl, Hattie Marohl (Mooreton), Christopher and Jessica Marohl (Wyndmere), Caitlyn and Apryl Wolf (Mooreton), Riley and Halley Marohl (Eaton, Colorado), Joshua and Lindsy Hansana (Gwinner), Zachary and Ethan Manock (Wahpeton); mother: Dorothy Marohl (Breckenridge); two brothers: Roy (Margaret)Marohl(Breckenridge), Charles (Kathy) Marohl (Blaine, M.N.); and one sister: Donna (Edward Jr.) Meyer (Breckenridge).
He was preceded in death by his father, Erhart and an infant brother, Donald.
