Dorothy W. Luebke was born November 11, 1917 along with her twin brother, Fred, to August and Ella (Pfahning) Luebke, at Detroit Lakes, MN. In 1919 the family moved to North Dakota in the Colfax area. She attended school in Nanson Township and later in Antelope Consolidated School. Dorothy never married but lost a very dear friend in 1950 of a heart attack; this loss was hard for her to accept. She lived with her father in Barney, ND, until his death in 1966. Her father was very ill the last three years of his life but she cared for him the best she could, day and night. After his death she worked at the Barney Grocery until it closed. She then worked at the Leach Home in Wahpeton for 23 years, driving back and forth until 1978, when she moved into Wahpeton. She moved into the Leach Home in 2008 and entered St. Catherine's Living Center in 2010.
Dorothy was gifted with her talent for music. She loved entertaining at the Leach Home, singing and playing her key board. She played by ear, never having any lessons. She and her brothers, Fred and Emil had a band "Luebke Rhythm Rascals"; they played for wedding dances and other events. She also played with the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band.
Dorothy is survived by her sisters-in-law, Lorraine Luebke, and Alta Luebke, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Ella, her sisters, Linda (Paul) Fahsholz and Nora (Max) Feustal, four brothers, Harry (Camilla) Luebke, Eldo (Gerlinda) Luebke, Edward (Marcella) Luebke, Emil Luebke, and her twin brother, Fred Luebke.
