Dorothy Hout, 98, Breckenridge, MN and formerly Wyndmere, ND died on Wednesday September 18, 2013 at the St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wyndmere United Methodist Church, Wyndmere, ND with Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. with interment at Elk Creek Cemetery. Vertin-Munson Wahpeton is in charge of local arrangements.
Dorothy Margaret (Long) Hout was born December 9, 1914, in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, to Walter and Margaret (Benson) Long. She graduated from White Bear Lake High School and got her first job at the local bank. She met U. S. Army serviceman LeRoy Hout from McLeod at Fort Snelling during WWII. Upon his return from service in France and the European Theater, they were married June 22, 1946. After working briefly on his parents' farm, they moved to Wyndmere in 1947, buying the Little Insurance Agency in 1950, working there for 30 years, meanwhile performing various civic duties.
Dorothy enjoyed golf, bowling, square dancing, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She belonged to the Wyndmere Homemakers, the Wyndmere United Methodist Church where she was Treasurer for 26 years, the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years, and was administrator of the Elk Creek Cemetery for 24 years.
Dorothy is predeceased by husband, LeRoy in May, 2001, her parents, and her sister Marion. She is survived by her sister-in-law Geneva of Anaconda, nieces, nephews, and many wonderful and valued friends.
Special thanks from Dorothy and her family to her kind friends/caring caregivers at St. Francis Healthcare and the Leach Home. They were truly wonderful to her at these last stages of her life.
