Dorothy Clark

Dorothy E. Clark, 97, Minot, ND, formerly Wahpeton, ND, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Manor Care, Minot, ND. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 18, 1:00 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton. Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Dorothy Elizabeth Painter was born June 17, 1915 in Flagg Springs MO, to Ira and Maudie Belle (Cooper) Painter. She was baptized in the First Christian Church, Hebron, NE. She graduated from Hebron High School and taught one year of country school in Clay County, NE. She was united in marriage to Frank M. Clark at Belleville, Kansas. The couple lived in several locations in Nebraska and North Dakota. Four sons were born to this union. Dorothy moved to Wahpeton in 1967 and moved to Minot, ND, in 2003.

Dorothy enjoyed needlepoint and reading, was an avid gardener and canned and preserved most of what she harvested. Dorothy was a true Southern Belle, very gracious and caring in all her contacts with people. Her family profited from her loving and caring upbringing and anyone who knew her loved and admired her. She walked daily for most of her life which attributed to her good health and longevity. It took the very cruel disease of Alzheimer's to end her good health but she fought it for over ten years before it finally won its wicked battle and ended her life.

She will be sadly missed by her family, including sons: Frank (Dawn) Clark, Minot, ND; and Steve (Penny) Clark, Woodbury, MN; a daughter–in-law, Jean Clark, Palmdale, CA; seven grandchildren: Susan ( ) Region, Windsor, VA; Frank Clark, III, Minot, ND; Kay Ann Clark, Palmdale, CA; Martin Clark, West Linn, OR; Steve Clark, Jr., Ormond Beach, FL; Michelle (Trent) Huber, Prescott, WI and Amy (Jeremy) Chilton, Hastings, MN; ten great grandchildren,: Alden Clark, Noah Clark, and Nathan Clark, all of West Linn, OR; Andrew (Angela) Stifter, Germany, Athena and Eric Stifter, Prescott, Wi and Brandon Clark, St. Paul, MN, Samantha Plessel, St. Cloud, MN, Joseph and Michael Chilton, Hastings, MN; a great great grandson, Noah Stifter, Germany, two cousins, in Nebraska and several nieces and nephews, in Missouri.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank Clark, two sons, Gary Clark and Daniel Clark, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Clark, a great granddaughter, Lily Elizabeth Clark, a step-grandson, Mickey Griffith, who was killed in Vietnam, a sister, Leatrice Barnes, and a brother, Richard Painter.
