Donna Lou was born on July 20, 1926 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to Peter and Marie (DeWalt) Lehman. She grew up and attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Breckenridge. Soon after, Donna met her future husband, Ervin Wahl and they were united in marriage June 17, 1943 in Breckenridge, MN. They were blessed with three sons, and raised them at their home in Breckenridge.
Donna loved spending time with her family at their lake cabin on Star Lake; she had become quite an avid water skier. Donna worked various jobs throughout her life, working at St. Francis Hospital as a nurse’s aide, as a secretary at USDA Government Office in Breckenridge, and later, as a cashier in a grocery store.
In Donna’s latter years, she lived at the Leach Home, St. Catherine’s Living Center and most recently at CHI St. Francis Nursing Home in Breckenridge, and also under the care of Hospice.
Donna loved her three sons dearly and was so happy when they would visit her.
Donna was a woman who loved God and prayed much and always counted her blessings! Donna was such a witness to God and His goodness while she lived at St. Francis. She never complained and would always say how good God was to her and how He saved her.
Donna Lou is survived by her three sons, Jeff Wahl, Kansas City, KS, Bruce Wahl, Naples, FL, and Duane (Jeannette) Wahl, Hankinson, ND; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Marie (DeWalt) Lehman; her husband, Ervin Wahl; three brothers, Thorman, Peter and James; her sister, Kay Leonhardt; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Wahl.
It was Donna’s wish to donate her body to The University of North Dakota School of Medicine. When research is finished, her remains will be buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Breckenridge.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
