Donna M. Sturgess, 75, Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton. A funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 27, at Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with Pastor Fern Bailey officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Willow Creek Chapel, (920 3rd Ave. N.) Wahpeton. Interment will be in the spring at Fairmount Cemetery, Fairmount, ND.
Donna Mae Sturgess was born July 20, 1932 at Lidgerwood, ND, the daughter of Edward and Loretta (Glasner) Schuschke. She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Lidgerwood, ND. She attended school in Lidgerwood and graduated from Lidgerwood High School. During school she worked at Red Owl Grocery, Lidgerwood, and later for Montgomery Wards Store in Wahpeton.
On November 20, 1952 Donna married John Marlyn Sturgess in Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The couple made their home near New Effington, SD and later moved to a farm north of Rosholt, SD. In the fall of 2000, John and Donna moved to their new home in Wahpeton.
Donna was a member of Greendale Homemakers, Birthday Club, and Red Hat Ladies. She had a participated in "Walk for Life" cancer walk. Donna loved gardening and reaping the fruits of her labor. She also enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards and visiting. She especially loved to spend time with her family seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed.
Donna is survived by her husband John, two children, Bruce (Lorelei) Sturgess, Hankinson, ND; and Brenda (Rodrick) Lentz of Lidgerwood, ND.; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Scott) Schmitt, Kimberly Sturgess, Justin (Jessica) Sturgess, Britney Sturgess, Bradley Sturgess, Jessica Lentz, Dani Lentz and great-grandchildren: Ethan, Chase, and Alayna Schmitt; step great -grandchildren, Hailey Lehmier and Austin Ballhagen; her mother Loretta Schuschke of Eagan, MN; her two sisters: Pat Hoffman of Moorhead, MN; Kay Jackson of Eagan, MN; her brother Jim Schuschke of Great Falls, MT; three sisters-in-law: Janice (Dale) Deike of Wahpeton, Joyce Tischer and Jean Chartrand, both of Breckenridge, MN.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, her infant brother, four brothers-in-law: Reuben Tischer, Robert Chartrand, Larry Jackson and Donald Hoffman.
