Dennis E. Myers, 68, West Fargo, ND, formerly Colfax, ND, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Triumph Hospital, Fargo, ND. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, March 2, 2:00 PM at Galchutt Lutheran Church, Galchutt, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Abercrombie, ND. Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Dennis "Punky" Eugene Myers was born November 27, 1942 at Wahpeton, ND, the son of Merlyn and Thea (Botnen) Myers. He grew up in Nansen Township and attended rural school at Nansen #4 and graduated from Colfax High School in 1960. He attended NDSU and on April 11, 1964 he was united in marriage to Joan Renee Alberts. Punky worked for Chandler Wilbert Vault Co. in Fargo until 1967 when he owned and operated a farm near Colfax. In 1989, he started employment with Richland Fertilizer Inc. of Colfax, retiring July of 2008.
Dennis was a member of Galchutt Lutheran Church where he was a past member of the Church Council, Trustee, and a Deacon. He was an active member of the Colfax community serving on the School Board, Swimming Pool Assn., Galchutt Betterment Club, Colfax Volunteer Fire Dept. and Colfax First Responder Unit. Punky was also known to mow many public lawns in the Colfax area that needed it. He loved entertaining people through his stories, his wonderful sense of humor, and in particular through his gift of music. He sang in the Alphean Male Chorus for many years as well as singing at various churches for special functions. He also enjoyed traveling, yard work and visiting with friends.
Dennis is survived by his wife Joan, West Fargo, ND; two sons and two daughters: Karen (Jeff) Miller, Colfax; John Myers, Colfax; Kathy Hersch, Fargo; David Myers, Fargo; four grandchildren: Caitlin (Logan) Biffert, Carina Miller, Brady Hersch, and Morgan Hersch; his brother, Marlin "Mike" (Sylvia) Myers, Colfax; and a special family friend, Darin Hersch, Davenport, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lois Schacht.
