Deloris "Dodie" Opgrand

March 30, 1948 — October 2, 2024

Fairmount, ND

Deloris "Dodie" Ann Opgrand, left this world on the morning of October 2, 2024, at her home in Fairmount, North Dakota, after an extended illness and under the care of Red River Valley Hospice. She was born on March 30, 1948, in Wahpeton, to Aloysius and Lucille (Gilgenbach) Althoff.

Dodie was raised in Mooreton, ND, was a graduate of Wahpeton High School, class of 1966, and furthered her education at Josef's Hair Academy in Fargo, ND; her career would span various jobs. Among her greatest joys were her family, particularly her husband, Allan "Opie" Opgrand. Theirs was a love story that began on Labor Day in 1983, culminating in their marriage on May 5, 1984, at the Newman Center in Wahpeton, ND.

A woman of multifaceted interests, Dodie found happiness in simple pleasures. She relished the serenity of car rides, enjoyed observing the ducks at the park, took great delight in the vivid colors of fall leaves, mums, and peonies in the spring. The thrill of the casino and the companionship of her beloved fur babies added joy to her life, as did her treasured moments shared with family and friends. Those who knew Dodie would agree that her personality was both vibrant and spirited; according to Opie, she was ornery in the most delightful sense.

Dodie is survived by her loving husband, Allan "Opie" Opgrand, and her siblings: Paul (Jan) Althoff, Kathleen "Kaye" (Irv) Leinen, John (Avis) Althoff, Don (Claire) Althoff, Mark (Lisa) Althoff, Mary Althoff, and Carol (Brett) Metcalfe; her in-laws Deb (Chip) Carlson, Paul (Denise) Opgrand, Marilyn (Bruce) Gangelhoff, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aloysius and Lucille (Gilgenbach) Althoff, an infant brother, James Althoff; and in-laws Sue Hatten and Chuck Hatten.

A memorial service in her honor will take place on October 12, 2024, at Hughes Shelter in Chahinkapa Park in Wahpeton, North Dakota, starting at 3:00 PM.
