David Woodbury

June 16, 1952 — March 11, 2022

David Woodbury, 69, of rural McLeod, ND, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND.  Visitation will continue at Bethel Lutheran Church on Friday, March 18, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by his funeral service at 11:00 AM.  A live stream of his services will be available on his obituary page on the funeral home’s website.  Burial will be at a later date at Nordmanna Cemetery, rural McLeod.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home.

David Jerome Woodbury was born on June 16, 1952, in Breckenridge, MN, to Herbert and Ragna (Haugen) Woodbury.  He grew up on the family farm near McLeod, ND, attended school at Sheyenne Township Central School through the sixth grade, and graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1970. He furthered his education at NDSSS in the Diesel Mechanics program and then enlisted in the Army National Guard.  David began his lifelong dream of farming and ranching near McLeod.

On December 3, 1983, David married Paula Ulsaker at Wyndmere Lutheran Church and they made their home on the farm where they raised their family.  David was very outgoing and involved in the community; he loved to visit with everyone. Along with farming/ranching, he also drove school bus for 10 years. David loved camping trips in the summer, bowling, fishing, hunting and fixing old tractors.  Being with family and time spent with his grandchildren was very special to him.

David was involved in many organizations throughout the years including: a member at West Prairie Free Lutheran Church, American Legion Brown Nelson Post 153, Nordmanna Cemetery Board, Wyndmere FFA Alumni, the ND Stockmen’s Association, Wyndmere School Board, the SE Region Career and Technology Center, Wyndmere Rural Fire District, and also served as the Sheyenne Township tax assessor.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Paula Woodbury; his four children, Timothy (Marie) Woodbury, McLeod, Patricia (Bill) Kuchera, Wyndmere, ND, Carl Woodbury, McLeod, Andrew (Megan) Woodbury, McLeod; 5 grandchildren, Haley, Britney and Amy Kuchera, Stella and Warren Woodbury and baby boy Woodbury, due in June; siblings, Howard (Joy) Woodbury, Wahpeton, ND, Linda Haberman, Fargo, ND, and  Larry (Judy) Woodbury, McLeod; mother-in-law, June Ulsaker, Wyndmere; brother-in-law, James (Celeste) Ulsaker, Mooreton, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ragna Woodbury; brother, Arnold Woodbury; sister-in-law, Lynn Woodbury; and brother-in-law, Dick Haberman.
