Curtis Carmen Mitskog was born on November 5, 1934 in Walcott, ND to Fritjof (Fritz) and Agnes (Isaacson)
Mitskog. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1952. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead MN and
went on to study Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO at Logan College of Chiropractic. While attending Logan College,
Curtis worked for Trans World Airlines fueling airplanes and managed to earn enough money to pay for his education.
After graduating from Logan College in 1958, he returned to Wahpeton and joined Dr. J.O. Ness's Chiropractic
practice. In 1960, Curtis joined the Air National Guard and was stationed in Fargo and eventually transferred
to Wahpeton.
On August 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Meredith Munson. In 1961 Meredith's parents were killed
in a tragic plane crash leaving four siblings behind; Meredith, Marianne, Mark, and David. Curtis and Meredith
helped raise Meredith's younger siblings and eventually had three kids together, Alisa, Nicole, and Thor.
In 1964 he started his own practice, Mitskog Chiropractic, located in the KBMW Building and opened a satellite
office that same year in Lidgerwood. In 1976 he moved the office to 11th street in Wahpeton. His daughter, Alisa
Mitskog, joined him in practice in 1990.
In 1999 Curtis was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder which forced him to slow down in his practice. In
2006 Curtis underwent a kidney transplant at Mayo Clinic with a kidney donated by his amazing cousin, Gilman
Braaten.
Curtis served two terms on the North Dakota Board of Chiropractic Examiners and in 1999 he was awarded an
honorary lifetime membership in the North Dakota Chiropractic Association. In 2009, he was honored with 50
years of service to the Chiropractic profession in North Dakota.
Curt was an active member in the community serving on the Wahpeton School Board for two terms. He was a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star, El Zagal Shrine, Masonic Lodge, Eagles, Elks, Wahpeton Chamber,
CDC, and ND Democratic Century Club.
Curtis loved to sing and enjoyed being a member of the Alphean Male Chorus and the Senior Choir at Bethel Lutheran Church.
Curt was proud of his Norwegian heritage and you could always spot him at one of the local church Lutefisk
suppers.
He loved to sing, golf, work in the yard, and cheer on his favorite college and professional sports teams.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with anyone that would come into his path. But most of
all, Curt loved to work and take care of his patients. You could often find him at his office after hours or on weekends
caring for someone. He was a good example to all of us demonstrating hard work, faith in God, and love for
his family.
