Christine M. Gauslow, 99, Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN passed away peacefully at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo, on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 19 at 11 AM at Richland Lutheran Church, Rural Walcott, ND with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at Richland Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Walcott, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Christine was born on May 19, 1915 in Clark County at the Bruflat Farm near Wallace, SD. She was one of four girls and four boys born to Charley O. and Gunhild Bruflat. She was baptized and confirmed, at the National Historic Site, Telemarken Lutheran Church rural Wallace. She attended School District No. 32, Clark County country school, a 2.5 mile walk one way. She then moved to Seattle where she worked at a restaurant, after which moving to San Francisco (about 1932) working at an interior design company, a dress shop, JC Penney, and mostly a Nanny for several families taking care of the children, cooking, cleaning and laundry, during her early years. Her love was taking care of children. In 1941 when Bob Hope was starting his career, she went to one of his first shows, and also Art Linkletter's. She lived there when Pearl Harbor was bombed and stayed through the war. She would spend her vacations going back to the family farm to help her mother. She continued her Nanny profession in Minneapolis, MN for some years, then Fargo, ND working for the Katz and Goldberg families. Christine married Orris A. Gauslow on December 28th, 1961 and the couple made their home on the Gauslow farm south of the Richland Church where Orris farmed. They moved to the Landsem Farm in 1963, and then purchased the Voyen Farmstead in 1968 and farmed until 2003. They raised two sons, Billy and Mark, and a daughter Laurie.
Christine was very active at Richland Lutheran Church. She was a member of WELCA, and taught Sunday School for several years. She was a kind and loving person and often made herself available to help family and friends in any way she could. She had a natural musical talent playing the piano and accordion by ear from an early age. She played most anything requested at Family holidays, and they joined in with their voices. She loved her cooking, canning, baking, her flowers, and gardening. Mostly she loved family, and was their nucleus; she loved getting them together for a meal out, on her.
Christine is survived by her family, Billy (Anna) Gauslow, Christine, ND, Mark Gauslow, rural Colfax, ND, Laurie (Jay) Vagts; her grandchildren, Jacob(Amie) Gauslow, Rochester, MN, Adam (Lisa) Gauslow, Kenosha, WI, Joseph Gauslow, Denver, CO, Ariel Gauslow, Maple Grove, MN, Natalie (Billy) Beyer, Alexandria, MN, Melanie Vagts, West Fargo, ND, Aaron Vagts, Breckenridge, MN; her five great-grandchildren; Carl Gauslow, Lena Gauslow, Lauren Beyer, Riley Beyer, and Lydia Beyer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orris A. Gauslow, her brothers, Ole Bruflat, Charles Bruflat, Gilbert (Lois) Bruflat, Glenn (Velma) Bruflat, her sisters, Mena (Augusthenius) Hjermstad, Alma Bruflat (age 19), Anne (John) Lovick.
