Christine Fuka

Christine Fuka, 89, Breckenridge, MN, formerly of Lidgerwood, ND passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 25th at 11:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton, ND with Father Dale Lagodinski as celebrant. Visitation will be Monday from 5 PM to 7:30 PM with a prayer vigil at 7:30 PM at Willow Creek Chapel, Wahpeton, ND. Visitation will also be Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lidgerwood, ND. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Christina (Christine) Arth was born December 4, 1923 in Rodert, Germany to Joseph and Helen (Bresgen) Arth. She immigrated to the US in 1924 and became a naturalized citizen in 1936. She grew up on a farm north of Lidgerwood, ND and rode horse and buggy to a country schoolhouse in Liberty Grove Township.

She married James A. Fuka on October 25, 1943 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lidgerwood and they lived on a farm west of town. Christine was a busy wife and loving mother who had the patience of a saint. When her own children got older, she did daycare for several local children. James passed away May 25, 1992 and she moved to Wahpeton, ND and lived there until her death.

Christine's faith and her family were her most valuable treasures. Praying the rosary daily was a great comfort to her. Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed playing bingo, crossword puzzles, and playing cards, especially "Pedro", which she was very good at. Christine was a kind, generous and loving soul who will be greatly missed by all her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; her infant son, Robert Christopher; her infant grandson, Colton Shulstad; her sons-in-law, Frank Hejtmanek and Randy Steffens; her brothers, Tony, Joseph, Matt, Edward, Paul, and John Baptiste Arth; her sisters, Helen Schmidt, Catherine Claussen, Elizabeth Arth, Ann Wacha, Mary Hansegaard, and her loving twin sister, Angeline Baumann; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
