Carole Louise Bernard, 69, Wyndmere, ND passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at her home. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, August 14, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Wyndmere, ND with Father Len Loegering as celebrant. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 PM to 7 PM with a prayer vigil at 7 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Carole was born May 27, 1943 in Hankinson, ND. Carole was the younger of two children born to Louis and Marie (Krump) Schiltz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Hankinson. She received her formal education at St. Francis Academy, Hankinson until the 10th grade then finished her high school education at Hankinson Public School. She was extremely active in extra-curricular activities as well as senior class salutatorian.
After graduating she married her high school sweetheart John Bernard on June 27, 1961. For the first 30 years of her adult life she was a devoted wife and mother of five children. In August of 1990 she started working at 3M Company in Wahpeton where she was employed until the fall of 2002 when she retired due to failing health.
Carole spent the majority of her life raising and caring for her family. She had an absolute love for children. In her free time she could often be found shopping, forever looking for a deal that she could not pass up. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, puzzles, card games, and photography. Later in life Twins baseball became a favorite past time as well as surfing the internet and email.
Carole is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Bernard; her five children: Michelle Johnson, Wyndmere, ND, Lisa (Tony) Uhlich, Kief, ND, Chad (Tammy) Bernard, Wyndmere, ND, Tami (Troy) Schwarze, Hutchinson, MN, Jamie (Kara) Bernard, Wyndmere, ND; her grandchildren: Joshua Johnson, Jody Johnson, Andy (Janel) Uhlich, Jim Uhlich, Michael Uhlich, Garrett Uhlich, Paige Bernard, Peyton Bernard, Toni Bernard, Thomas Schwarze, and Zachary Bernard; her great-grandchild: Jade Uhlich; and her sister, Norma (Dave) Birchem, Detroit Lakes, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Marie Schiltz, her granddaughter, Jessica Johnson, and an infant grandson, Daniel Uhlich.
