Carmen Kutzer, 92, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Fairmount, ND, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Sheyenne Crossings Care Center in Fargo. Her memorial service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND, with Rev. Dale Lagodinski officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.
Carmen Beverley Kutzer was born on May 25, 1926 at Larimore, ND, to Orrin and Sylvia (Soldahl) Johnston. She lived with her grandparents as a child, Clarence and Julia Egan of Hope, ND. Carmen graduated from Hope High School in 1944 and attended Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN, receiving her degree in elementary education. She taught school for 34 years; 2 years at Summit Township of Richland County, ND and 32 years at the Fairmount, ND school system.
On March 5, 1946 she married Denzil W. Kutzer at Fairmount, ND. “Dyke” as many knew him, was the owner/operator of the Simpson Hatchery in Fairmount, where the couple lived and raised their three children. Denzil “Dyke” died on October 9, 1987 and Carmen remained in Fairmount, until moving to Fargo, ND in 2000. She was a member of the Fairmount Women’s Literary Club and the North Dakota Education Association. Carmen enjoyed reading, crocheting, and her many craft projects, as well as traveling and wintering in Mesa, Arizona for 15 years.
Carmen is survived by her two sons, D. Barry (Sandra) Kutzer, Fargo, ND and Marshall (Allison) Kutzer, West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jeanne Diemert, Fargo.
She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Cindy; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to Hospice or a charity of your choice.
