Betty Johnson

Betty Jane Wateland Johnson was born January 15, 1930, in Ibsen Township, Richland County, ND, the daughter of Melvin and Olga (Bakken) Wateland. She was baptized and confirmed at Galchutt Lutheran Church. She attended schools in Ibsen Township, Galchutt and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1948. Betty married Merle P. Johnson at the Galchutt Lutheran Church on May 24, 1950. Betty worked at Rosemeade Pottery, ASCS Office and Soil Conservation Services.

Betty was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Bethel Circle and since 1954, she was a member of "Just Us Girls" Homemakers.

Betty is survived by her daughter Cynthia Korstad, Fargo, ND; her daughter-in-law, Lucinda Johnson, Wahpeton; her grandson, Blake Johnson, Fargo; her granddaughter, Alecia Johnson, Fargo; great granddaughters, Jazzlyn and Emmy Hasbargen, a brother, Glen Wateland, four sisters: Ruth Kutzer, Bismarck, ND; Gloria Lund, Wahpeton; Lois (Roger) Schaff, Eagan, MN; and Donna (Darwin) Mielke, Burnsville, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merle, Oct. 11, 2011, her son, Scott; an infant son Timothy; brothers: Dennis, Jervis, Kermit, and Wallace Wateland.
