Arlis Fixen

Arlis was born on January 7, 1929 at rural Oakes, ND to Frank and Esther (Swanson) Johnson. She attended grade school at Clement, graduating from Oakes High School. She obtained her teaching degree from Valley City Teachers College and taught elementary grades in several schools in the area.
Her teaching career took her to Tucson, AZ where she met her future husband who was also from North Dakota. She married E. Lloyd Fixen on November 1, 1958. They lived and farmed south of Galchutt, ND, moving to Abercrombie in 1980. Lloyd passed away in 1993. Arlis spent the last eight years living in West Fargo.
Arlis was a long time member of Galchutt Lutheran Church where she was very involved serving as church organist for several years as well as teaching Sunday school and participating in WELCA. She also spent many years as a 4-H leader and was active in the local Homemaker Club.
Arlis is survived by her four children; Steven (Shelly) Fixen, Galchutt, Scott (Cathy) Fixen, Galchutt, Ruth Bachmeier, Kindred, ND, Lisa (Bryan) Schulz, West Fargo, ND. Eight grandchildren; Turner (Tracy) Fixen, Natalie (Brandon) Caulkins, Jennifer (Thad) Jameson, Ellen Simonson, Anna Bachmeier, Eric Bachmeier, Karli Schulz, Katie Schulz and one great-grandson Blake Simonson. She is also survived by one brother-in-law Glenn Fixen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents Frank and Esther, two sisters, Bettye Swanson and Shirley Ptacek and numerous brothers- in- law and sisters- in- law.
