Arlene Haugen, 83, Fargo, ND, formerly of Wyndmere, ND passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Edgewood Vista in Fargo. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Wyndmere Lutheran Church, Wyndmere, ND with Ivy Schulz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at GOL-AAL Cemetery, rural Wyndmere. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.
Arlene was born on June 1, 1931 in Crookston, MN to Lawrence and Thelma (Bruun) Grove. Known as "Toots" to her family, she grew up and attended school near Climax, MN and graduated from Climax High School in 1949. She worked in the area until moving to Cutbank, MT for a few years and then she moved back to Moorhead, MN in the early 1950's to help care for her father. When her father passed away she began her career of 36 years at Hornbachers in the produce department until her retirement in 1991.
Arlene was united in marriage to Irving Haugen on February 23, 1964 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. They moved to a farm home that Irving built north of Wyndmere, ND. Irving passed away on November 28, 2007 and Arlene continued to live on the farm until 2010 when she became a resident of Edgewood Vista in Fargo.
Arlene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, rural Wyndmere and served on many positions of the church council and WELCA. She was also active in the Fargo Sons of Norway. She enjoyed reading, doing word searches, and dancing and making flatbread with Irving. She loved to travel to California each winter with Irving to visit relatives, and family gatherings and entertaining were important to her, especially with her nieces and nephews.
Arlene is survived by her sister, Yvonne Hanson, Crookston, MN; her sisters-in-law, Ardis Grove, Rochester, MN, Loris Kyle, Folsom, CA, Verona Haugen, Moorhead, MN; her brothers-in-law, Treadwell (Alice) Haugen, Fargo, ND, Donald Delp, Avondale, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Thelma Grove, her husband, Irving, her sister, Mildred Delp, her brother, Lyle Grove, her brothers-in-law, Harold Haugen and Wayne Hanson, and a nephew, Dean Haugen.
