Andrew Vafed

Andrew J. Vafed was born on January 24, 1921 to Elmer L. and Inga V. (Olson) Vafed in rural Barney , ND . He attended country school in the Barney and McLeod areas and attended McLeod High School . After high school, he farmed with his mother on the family farm because his father passed away in 1937. When he was 34 years old he joined the US Air Force and served in Texas as an X-Ray technician. After returning to North Dakota he served in the Air National Guard and continued farming for the rest of his life.

Andy was a member of the Wahpeton Eagles and served as the Freeman Township Assessor for many years. He enjoyed dancing, photography, and annual deer hunts. He spent most of his life with his family and enjoyed traveling with them.

Andy is survived by two sisters, Gloria J. Graham, Coldridge , NE , and Vylet Vafed, McLeod , ND ; his niece, Rozanne C. (Dan Blegen) Graham, Brooklyn Park , MN ; his nephew, Gary W. (Cindy) Graham, Hartington , NE ; grandnieces and nephews, Lance S. and Shane A. Blegen, Brittany R. and Garret W. Graham.
