Albin J Sorum, 89, of Breckenridge, Minnesota, passed away on January 23, 2024, at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, North Dakota.   His memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND.  There will be a visitation one hour prior.  Pastor Dave Kuhfal will officiate the service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Albin was born on January 19, 1935, in Bemidji, Minnesota, to Syvert and Alma (Anderson) Sorum. He grew up in Hawley, Minnesota, and graduated from Hawley High School in 1953.

Following his graduation, Albin worked at Hanson Food Market in Hawley from 1953 to 1956, then served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. During his service, he was stationed in Alaska. In pursuit of his passion for printing and graphic arts, Albin attended North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS), graduating in 1960.

Albin's career in the newspaper industry began in Wahpeton, North Dakota, where he worked as a news pressman at the Daily News until August of 1981. In August 1966, Albin married the love of his life, Marian Barringer. Together, they settled in Breckenridge, Minnesota, and were blessed with two sons, Scott and Mark. Albin dedicated nearly 20 years of his life to 3M, starting in August 1981 until his well-deserved retirement in February 2000.

Albin and Marian shared a deep love for each other and enjoyed many cherished moments together. They found joy in fishing, camping, and embarking on adventures, especially their unforgettable Alaskan Cruise, which was a gift from their loving sons. In his younger years, Albin enjoyed hunting alongside his brother, Stanley, and brother-in-law, Gordan Peterson.

Albin is survived by his wife Marian; son, Mark Sorum; grand-daughter Allison (Taylor) Hagberg; nephews, Gary and Wayne Peterson and Aaron Trzynka; niece, Linda (John) Newland; great grand-daughter, Ellsie Hagberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Syvert and Alma Sorum; son, Scott Sorum; brother, Stanley; sisters, Gladys Peterson, and Alice Sorum in infancy; nephews, Arvid and Roger Peterson; niece, Elaine Trzynka; and brother-in-law Gordon Peterson.
