Abbie Lenore Moe was born on August 12, 1912 in
Colfax Township

North Dakota
to Albert and Ingeborg (Bevre) Gauslow.
She attended rural school in
Colfax
Township
and graduated from
Christine
High School
in 1929.
She did housekeeping for several years after graduation, and then chose her profession in the field of nursing.
She attended Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing (
Now
Fairview
Memorial
Hospital
) in
Minneapolis
,
MN
for four years, graduating in 1939.
She was a Nursing Supervisor in
Worthington
,
MN
for five years.
She returned to
Richland
County
and married Carl Moe on December 27, 1943 at the Gauslow home, with only the immediate families in attendance.
Carl was stationed at
Galesburg
,
Ill.
before his discharge so the couple lived there until returning to farm the Moe Family Farm in
Colfax
Township
in February of 1945.
Carl died in 1959; Abbie returned to her nursing career in 1969 and became the Supervising Charge Nurse when Elim Nursing Home opened that same year.
She loved the nursing field and her patients.
Abbie retired in 1986 after 17 years.
Abbie remained on the Moe farm after Carl’s death, moving to
Walcott
Township
in 1981.
In 1997 she entered the Carriage House in
Moorhead
,
MN
,
moved to
Serenity
Assisted
Living
Center
in Dilworth for 3 years,
and this past year the
Elim
Care
Center
.
Abbie was a life long member of the
Richland
Lutheran
Church
,
Walcott
,
ND
, active in WELCA, an associate member of
Trinity
Lutheran
Church
,
Moorhead
,
MN
and active in the Quilters Group, helped with the Sons of Norway and belonged to the Barney North Dakota VFW Auxiliary.
Her family was the most important part of her days and she would always say how fortunate she was to have lived such a full and wonderful life.
Even after Carl died, she cared for his two brothers, Harold and Martin on the family farm until their deaths.
Abbie was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren; their education and their accomplishments.
Abbie and Carl were blessed with five children; four sons and one daughter; David who died at the age of 2 ½, Robert (Connie) Moe, Hilton Head, SC; Larry (Jean) Moe, Walcott, ND, Mary (Charley) Johnson, Moorhead, MN; Carlton (Barb) Moe, Barnesville, MN, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her sister, Lorraine Langseth, Wahpeton, ND, and her sister-in-law, Christine Gauslow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the “love of her life” Carl in 1959, son David in 1947 and two brothers, Orris and Andrew Gauslow.
Abbie’s family would like to give a special thank you to her “Other” daughter, Loraine Kummer, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Serenity Assisted Living, and her guardian angel, Valerie Heim for all their care over the years.
